Dependent Children Critical Illness Insurance


Critical Illness protection for the entire family.

Coping with a serious illness is one of the greatest challenges any family can face. Purchasing coverage for your dependent children gives you peace of mind, knowing that you will have some extra financial resources to help your entire family through a difficult time.

Eligibility

In order to purchase Dependent Critical Illness Insurance for your children under the Mount Royal University Alumni Insurance Program, you must already be insured for, or applying for Critical Illness Insurance. If both you and your spouse are alumni members, only one of you can apply to cover your children.

If you don't have Critical Illness Insurance, you can apply by filling out an application form.

You can apply for up to $10,000 in coverage for your children. Children will be protected for the same 25 illnesses as adults plus the following 6 child-specific conditions:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Down’s Syndrome
  • Congenital Heart Disease
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Type 1 Diabetes

All your children are protected for one low premium rate, and children born after your initial purchase are covered without the need for medical underwriting if you apply within 90 days of their birth. In order to cover your children under this plan you must also be insured for Critical Illness Insurance.

Important information about your premium rates and coverage amounts:

  • One low premium covers all of your eligible dependent children. You can choose to purchase up to $10,000 in coverage. All children must be covered for the same amount of Critical Illness Insurance.

1. Do premiums stay the same?

Yes. Premiums do not increase as your child grows older.

2. How do I add a newborn child to my existing coverage?

If you apply for your newborn child within 90 days of their birth, no medical underwriting is required.

3. What is the definition of “Dependent Child”?

“Dependent child” means any natural child, step-child or legally adopted child to whom you are providing full parental support and who is:

  • Unmarried and less than 21 years of age.
  • Unmarried, between 21 and 25 years of age and in full time attendance at a recognized school, college or university.

4. When does my child’s coverage terminate?

The earliest of the following dates:

  • The date your coverage ceases for any reason.
  • The date they no longer qualify as a dependent child.
  • The date the benefit is paid.

5. Who will receive the benefit payment if my child is diagnosed with one of the covered conditions?

Benefit payments for your children will be paid to you.
